Sustainable Development
We work with landowners with development objectives to apply sustainable development strategies that achieve their programmatic and investment objectives while creating better places to live and work and minimizing the environmental impacts of development. Sustainable development principles can be applied to new development and redevelopment for residential, commercial, mixed-use and institutional uses. Sustainable development principles broadly include:

• Development in a compact and targeted manner to minimize land impact
• Preservation, restoration and integration of open space and natural resources
• Energy and resource-efficient development and operations

Conservation and Restoration
For clients with conservation objectives, we develop strategies for the preservation and restoration of natural and cultural resources that meet their conservation, economic and operational goals. We can lead a process to assess the property’s natural resources, develop conservation, restoration and stewardship plans, review government incentive programs, understand tax implications of conservation easements, donations and sales, and identify conservation partners for easements, sales, funding and stewardship. If consistent with an owner’s objectives, sustainable development and alternative uses can be integrated in a manner that supports their conservation goals.

Alternative Market-driven Uses
We work with landowners to explore the expanding universe of market-driven opportunities such as those related to ecosystem services and renewable energy which offer the potential to leverage a property’s natural assets as a means to generate revenue and enhance long-term economic and environmental value. These opportunities appear poised to grow as a result of proposed regulation, expanding markets and availability of investment capital, and include conservation and mitigation banking, pollutant and carbon trading, sustainable agriculture and forestry, energy crops and wind farming.
